Summary/Abstract:

The Immigrant Integration Barometer 2013 was conducted within the EU-funded project Center for Documentation and Research on Immigrant Integration, implemented by the Romanian Association for Health Promotion and Soros Foundation Romania. This tool analyzes how Romanian society facilitates the social inclusion of immigrants, especially those from outside the EU. The research defined three planes of integration: ideal (fundamental rights), vision (policies and legislation in Romania) and practice (citizens' perceptions and policy implementation). These blueprints were projected on 13 dimensions of integration, grouped into 5 levels: openness, acceptance of differences, basic support for integration, inclusion and citizenship. The methodology included literature review, domestic and international legislation and data collection for hypothesis testing. The results are presented for each dimension of integration, with a final assessment and recommendations for the institutions responsible for immigrant integration in Romania.
