Summary/Abstract:

This study assesses health literacy regarding cardiovascular diseases and diabetes in Romania as part of the JACARDI Project (WP6), analyzing a sample of 5,207 individuals from rural areas. Using the HLQ and KAP questionnaires administered via CAPI, the research identified 15 distinct clusters with varying levels of health literacy. Results reveal that while most respondents are registered with a family doctor, access to specialized healthcare services and understanding medical information remain significant challenges, particularly for vulnerable groups. Socioeconomic factors and lack of social support exacerbate these difficulties. The study recommends targeted interventions, such as health education programs and awareness campaigns, to improve the management of chronic diseases in rural communities.
