Summary/Abstract:
One of the worst humanitarian crises in modern Europe began in February 2022 with the war in Ukraine, forcing people to flee their homes. The EU, UNICEF and the UN have provided support to the refugees, and in Romania monitoring their situation is part of the ongoing response to the crisis.
The research conducted in February-March 2023 by the Romanian Association for Health Promotion assessed Romanian population perceptions of displaced people from Ukraine and the needs of Ukrainian refugees for integration into new communities. The aim of the study was to provide actors involved in humanitarian response with information for planning community cohesion interventions and programs.
The methodology included social media analysis, focus groups and data collection through online questionnaires, obtaining 405 responses from Romanians and 527 from Ukrainian refugees. Although not a representative study, measures were taken to include different categories of respondents.
